I bought a 30" dual fuel Thermador range six months ago. I'm sorry to say I failed to read the reviews before making a purchase and am now suffering from the same motherboard problems that have plagued so many other Thermador owners.

I was told by my customer service rep that it would take a full week to get an appointment with a Thermador-trained technician (sure hope the kids don't get hungry!). That was after she first told me the wait could be up to a month. I questioned the delay and was told they have a lot of people who need service and that it wasn't the company's fault that it would take so long to get an appointment. I beg to differ. If you sell faulty products, you'd better hire an army to fix them.

I next mentioned the multiple reviews online concerning this same problem and asked if I was expected to wait a week every time my motherboard fails. The rep said that no one at the company was prepared to answer that question. I asked to speak with her supervisor, thinking surely a supervisor would have a public-relations-ready answer to that question, and was put on hold for several minutes because my rep "needed to think."

While my rep was thinking, I myself was thinking about what I was going to make for dinner. Oh wait, I have no range. For the next seven days. Eventually the rep finished thinking and assured me she would send an email to a group of six supervisors, none of whom could be counted on to return my call.

Thanks, Thermador. You guys are doing an awesome job. And you sure make a pretty range.
Pros: gorgeous
Cons: major electrical problems, terrible customer service

I talked my husband in to purchasing the PG3004BS, Thermador Range for $4,499.00, when we upgraded our kitchen appliances, back in October of 2005. March 2006, the Oven PC Board went out. The range is still under the manufactures warranty. Plus we purchased an extended warranty, which now I realize is going to be a necessity. It took the Service company over a month to let me know that they could not get the part (P/N 499448). Finally in April 2006 the service company came up with a part (495149) they found somewhere, somehow, they installed it, and assured me that this part would not go out. July 26, 2004 while baking muffins, this part failed. I called the service company, and they can schedule service in 11 days. However, once again, the part is not available, (the parts supplier orders the parts from China) of course there is a backlog and will always be if the parts fail every 6 months.
I wish I had read the previous review on the range, as it sounds like there are other problems to prepare for, I would have bought the Viking instead, it may not look as good, but at least it works. I do not use the oven more that 2 or 3 times a week, but it would be nice to know that when I want to it's there, especially for the kind of money we paid for it. This a true Buyer Beware.

this range looks great but that's all it does. it is a piece of furniture that fails in every aspect imagnable. let me see, failed broiler, failed igniters, gas leak, failed oven lights, stainless steel panel separates from the oven window when it gets hot, grills chip when the stove gets hot, all the igniters will stop working when the oven is on for greater thahn an hour. and did i mention it failed the first month i had it installed and had it serviced 9 times throughout the nine years i've owned it??? a 3000 dollar range that functions worse than a 300 dollar stove.

This is an expensive range: $3,000 to $4,500. One would expect quality.
I thought I was doing my wife a favor when we remodeled the kitchen and replaced a trustworthy Sears range.

I can't speak about the quality of other "professional" home ranges but Thermador is as bad as it gets and selecting it proved a costly mistake.

A lot of things broke with this range, but the most frustrating is the simmer control potentiometer. Average life: 6-8 months. Replacement cost $150 with service. This is not unique to me. A search on the web for the part uncovered many people with exactly the same problem. All gas Thermador models seem to share this design. The company never acknowledged my complaints.

I replaced the potentiometer 8 times so far and it is broken again. The failing part is a simple pcb, part number189816. It has a painted-on resistor coil but costs an outrageous $50. Off course, no warranty on the part. Sparking during ignition cycles burns the coil off and the burner no longer works. Worst of all, the part is no longer available.

The simmer control is required because this range has no small burners. Simmering is done with a continuous on-off control on a full size burner. Dumb idea.

When the oven is on, the two left top burners will not work. Never could figure out why.

Other items which went bad are the sparking electrodes. Poorly designed attachment. They come loose and won't reseat. Then they are mis-positioned to ignite the burner.

I am also unimpressed with the "sealed burner" design. It turns out it makes cleaning much harder then a conventional design.

And did I mention the oven ignitor coil also burned out. We used the oven a dozen of times a year.

You get the picture.
Buyer beware.
Pros: Good looking. Great if you don't cook
Cons: The least reliable and most expensive to fix kitchen appliance I have ever owned

We spent over $13,000 on Thermador appliances when we remodeled our kitchen. Barely over a year gone by when the computer panel on our hood failed. At the same time the heat coil of our wall oven was completed fried. I was told by the technician who came to replace it that it wasn't anything I did wrong. He had replaced a bunch of them.

Four out of the six burners on the dual range often does not ignite without a match. I like to make stew and soup a lot but the temperature for low is too high to simmer and the extra-low setting does not even keep it warm. (yes, I have the Pro series).

No matter how often and careful I am with upkeeping the appliances, I cannot get rid of the grease stains and streaks on the the glass doors of the wall oven and range.

All in all, it's a hugh disappointment. I think my old Kenmore appliances worked a lot better.

I do love my Thermador microwave.
Pros: improve resale value of my kitchen?
Cons: not performing as advertised

We completed an overhaul of our kitchen and purchased all new appliances. We spent months looking around and finally was convinced by a number of resellers that this was the best stove to get. Fine, we purchased it for $4000.00 and since the day it was dropped in my house it has had problems.

Thermador support is useless and I am surprised they haven't recalled this range. I reported them to the BBS due to there rudeness on the phone and unwilling to help. I have had the oven door replaced twice due to a faulty seal, the ignitors work when they want to on the top burners and the oven ignitors have been replaced due to a faulty motherboard. This range is "JUNK" and I am telling you now, please do not buy Thermador products, you will be sorry. Spend your money on a Viking or Jenn AIr, you'll get a much better stove
Pros: Nice Knobs and good looking
Cons: Doesn't work, Quality is the worse I've ever seen

I would never buy another Thermador product.
--After many months of consistent results, we know the oven runs 50 degrees hotter than advertised.
--After a matter of weeks one burner wouldn't light from the starter. Now only one of four ights without a match.
--Ceramic cooktop surprisingly easy to damage with cleaning, compared to our previous range.
--The optional center grill gas distribution tube is cracked in so many places at the front U, that not enough gas can be delivered to the rear stright pipes to burn evenly
--User assembly of grill is poorly designed. it's very difficult to re-seat the gas distribution tube.
Pros: ability to HAVE an indoor grill
Cons: too numerous to mention. see review
